The theme of Chinese lovers became very popular in Europe and in the Americas after 1926 premier of Giacomo Puccini’s opera “Princess Turandot”. This could be a depiction of Chinese princes Turandot and her suitor, Tartary prince Calaf!
Beautifully aged with a charming amount of patina. The back of the bookends are marked "SOLID BRASS", and are very weighty.
